COOKING WITH FIRE

SATURDAY - Cooler today with a very nice breeze blowing which is making it well chilled .Picked up a 200w heater fan from Screwfix I got a strange look from the sale assistant asking if I knew it was a heater fan I said I did jokingly I told him it was not hot enough it was 26 centigrade and rising I was even sweating when I made this comment simple fact turn the heater off and  it blows cold. Helen was in getting her nails done when the technician had the same fan and Helen said it was running really cold and the shop was way chilled hence why we bought one.

Went to the tip got rid of a load of rubbish from Helens shed along with some garden waste and domestic waste.

Went to Fox Valley change my two pairs of shorts I bought them in XL instead of  L I.am a slim bastard not. Bought some meat to barbeque chicken . ribs , burgers sausages and of course chicken .

Went to Aldi bought some strawberries , choc ices for the hounds some Franks  hot sauce and more fresh fruit and cider  . Went home dusted of the barbeque grill and filled it with charcoal and firelighters and set fire to it using my blow torch .

B TIME

THURSDAY - Washed polished vacuumed the car interior and exterior even under the hood and boot no matter how much time and effort that  I spend to detailing it it is  never going to like its just been driven out of the car showroom for the first time the hardest to clean being the alloy wheels and tyres and maybe the carpets in the foot wells , anyway it is looking shiny black which in my eyes is job done good .

FRIDAY - Went to Fox Valley bought a pair of swim shorts/Bermudas just in case the weather improves fingers crossed it will .

SATURDAY - Fitted the new rubber pull boot handle  you have to unscrew the old handle that is left in after it snapped pop the boot liner pull the old out put the new one in push the plastic boot panel back in place and screw the new handle in place a ten minute job .

ON THE COAST

SATURDY - Went to Helen's parents in Acaster fitted the water butt to one of the fall pipes had to go to B&Q get two new brackets for the fall pipe it is only holds a 100 litres of rain water not much all considered .It might have been better under the window less chance of it getting blown over on the corner is risky but that's were they wanted it .

SUNDAY - Took the dogs to Seaham we was meeting up with Martin , Katie  and Sharon .On the way stopped at McDonalds had double sausage McMuffin hash browns and a banana milk shake took out and  saved a sausage Patties for the dogs . Got to Seaham mid morning we   parked up where we did on our  last visit .Walked down to the beach the dogs didn't seem to mind the pebble beach parts are sand but more pebbles than sand at one point both dogs got their feet wet in the waves that were rolling in. After spending a good four hours there collecting more sea glass and Hag stones that's the pebbles with the hole that goes right through.

From here with Sharon following in her car  we headed for Kettleness beach we was going to see a waterfall but we couldn't get down to the beach from were we where parked so we went to Scarborough we parked at the harbour it is  free parking after six and walked to the grand hotel all along the beach front .We went out on the veranda of the hotel and I took some pictures of Scarborough bay which thousands of other people must have took over the years .

From Scarborough we went to Sandsend to the Fish Cottage for fish and chips we sat on the picnic tables out side to eat them they were ok they had sold out of bread cakes but the curry sauce was good and the service ok the fish could have been bigger but after being out all day smelling and tasting the sea air they tasted fine .

The dogs were not eating we took food and their food bowls with us along with fresh water they were not wanting their food or even their treats they had water at every stop but food no .They were both extremely well behaved in the car they are silent they don't jump around although they are secured using their harness and seat belts with clip in straps that then go to the lead attachment loop on their harness .

The final destination was Rudston in Driffield to see a massive monolith the tallest prehistoric standing stone in the U.K is 16 metres tall with 8m's going in to the ground and 8m's above the ground to keep it securely upright and is roughly 4,000 years old and is located in the grave yard of All Saints Church in  East Yorkshire .

GLASS BEACH SEAHAM

WEDNESDAY - Was up at half past six took the dogs out .We was setting off for Seaham on the Durham coastline 112 miles away taking us over two hours drive to get there we have never been before so neither of us know what to expect .We got there just after ten parking was great drove down the sea front to parking places the end of town parking was three quid for the whole day .

The Seaham beach area boasts a rich history of glass production dating back to 1853. This venture eventually merged into the Londonderry Bottle Works, which operated until 1921 and produced up to 20,000 hand-blown bottles every day. The bottles were exported via ship to London and Europe. Local resources such as sand and limestone were utilized, and rejected glass—often referred to as “end of day” glass—was carelessly discarded into the sea. This waste has contributed to the sea glass we treasure today.

We did find quite a few pieces mainly clear glass with the odd few green and one small red no blue or yellow we did find some pebbles for the garden the beach is quite long and there were quite a few people hunting for glass. In the afternoon we walked down the front of the beach into town and went to Bells fish and chip shop eating in the restaurant the food was fine not  the best on the coast but would give it a second try .

Really enjoyed the hours spent at Seaham will be going back later in the year hopefully .

THURSDAY - Relentless rain for this week and next not very good for June hopefully it gets better asp

Applied to refinance the Skoda H.P over the next three years hopefully fingers crossed all goes well otherwise I'm without a car which means getting to work will be impossible not on a bus route and cant carshare .

WHITBY ONCE MORE

FRIDAY -Set of for Whitby we didn't leave until 12.30 and it is a two and a half hour drive filled the car up with petrol that's sixty quid gone in the first ten minutes of our journey .The sun was out the air con was on and we were in no rush finally made it to Whitby  just off the harbour paid a ten quid parking fee , before strolling around the shops .It was hot and sunny a glorious day .

If you are wanting fish and chips then there is only one restaurant in Whitby to go to and that's "The Magpie" we had to queue for fifteen minutes to get a table it is worth the wait we were second in the queue some people had booked and walked in ahead of everyone queuing which is fair play

The fish was spot on the batter crispy the fish whiter than white the curry sauce very decent and the Magners Irish cider could have been colder although I got it with ice I paid for a large haddock instead of the regular Helen got the regular and I couldn't see the difference I think it is a con the same happened at Murgatroyd's size was the same as Helen's regular fish think its a way to generate more money will stop going large .Bought a post card 40p .

After eating we drove over to Scarborough we use the Sea Life car park and went to the Old Scalby Mills pub .I had a cider in Whitby so I had a coffee Helen a tea we sat on the outside wooden benches watching the sea.

BETTER PIZZA

THURSDAY - Went back to the garden centre returned a box of solar powered string lights we had more than enough with two boxes , I got a refund I also ended up buying a Japanese Acer tree for the front garden £129 no doubt it will survive long after I am gone I planted it in a big stone pot we bought a few weeks ago I planted it myself its called Groot .

Fired up the pizza oven on the way home from Uppermill called into Tesco and bought two pizza bases cheating I know but a lot less hassle making the dough from scratch does not seem to be ideal it is also messy .The pre made pizza bases is the way to go the enter and exit the oven a lot easier than wet dough and cook and taste as good if not better. I had pepperoni with mascarpone and mozzarella cheese  one pizza is enough. It was the best yet .

FRIDAY - It is cooler today we are setting off to Whitby at around half past twelve hopefully eating at the Magpie café decided to but a post card of every place we visit scribble on what we did and safe it for future reference should have done this years ago a great way to reflect on things in the past , hope I remember .

FRESH PRODUCE

WEDNESDAY - Cooked outside did the bacon and egg sandwiches on the camping stove we bought a while back .The temperature outside it was already  in the mid 25's  and rising way too warm for slaving over a indoor cooker. I am sure the bacon tasted tastier cooking it outside that's three different ways I have cooked outdoors in as many days if ever the gas electric got cut off we wouldn't starve the only draw back is the great British weather  yesterday afternoon after being red hot for the best part of the day before we lit the pizza oven it rained it was still sunny but now sunny and wet .

Being off work is nice doing nothing all day is nice too , drinking apple and mango cider with ice is extremely nice eating outdoors the best not leaving home very cost effective if there are planning another lock down I wont argue .

Went to the Albion farm shop bought various produce including both white and granary breadcakes  lamb chops for Helen I also bought some fudge and tomatoes topping for the pizza bases we bought a scotch egg to eat at the picnic tables outside on the way home stopped of at the Dobcross garden centre bought some solar powered string lights which we hung up all along the garden fence panels 32 metres not the worlds biggest garden but it is one of the nicest gardens on the block even if I say so myself .

NOT COOKING WITH GAS

TUESDAY - Finally used the pizza oven made the pizza dough from scratch was a lot of prep like always  preparation is everything .You need to be ready with the pizza at the right time to cook it perfect it is an art form and like anything you learn from your mistakes but saying that it is not impossible to get a very tasty pizza on the first run .

Keep the fire box constantly burning it does not take long for the pellets to burn away the the temperature then drops pretty quick once there is no fuel it does not take long for a tinder box of pellets  to burn away so keep adding more pellets .Another tip make sure everything is to hand the blow torch , tongs , pellets and your toppings tomato and cheese and digital thermometer .Once the flames are peaking through the chimney throw in the pizza keep rotating the pie  and be careful not to burn it from uncooked to black in a blink of an eye obviously you don't want  no black crust .and be mindful flour get everywhere just live with it its not the end of the world having a thin film of flour dust everywhere where you are making pizza .it is stressful the pressure is on but it is fun and get it right which you will the end result is worth it .Leave the cleaning to the following day its outdoors anyway .

THE BEST

SATURDAY - Thinking of buying a mod out iPod classic I have a 160gb classic already but what it cost to mod it its as cheap getting one already done costing around  £199 .I want one with a see through clear case black scroll wheel and aluminium back case , will also get a leather case and some decent wired iem's.

Went to the old St Mary's chapel near Towton a big battle of the roses occurred in 1461  it lasted for ten hours 50000 men showed up and  between 3000 to 4000 lost their lives , and  the near by stream rang red with blood .The Church was already there some of the soldiers took refuge there the night before the battle commenced .Hopefully all saw the following day .

From there we went to Woodbank garden centre which took ages to get there was ok .We finished off buy going to Murgatroyd's at Yeadon  for fish and chips it has been years since we was there last .I am not giving them a bad review as it was all ok but being honest we both agreed we both think that that Wetherby Whaler are better based on the batter ,chips and for me the curry sauce 9.25/10 saying that Murgatroyd's are still a good 8.75/10 the only fish shop I rate higher is the Magpie at Whitby we will be going there week after next hopefully weather permitting .I break up next Friday for 16 days they will be no work .
