MORE STEPS

MONDAY - Bank holiday although it does not make much difference to me as I am on sick leave for the next couple of months .Put the drone on charge Helen brother Martin his wife Katie and their son Olive rare coming over we are going out to a nearby reservoir  to fly the drones .

It is quite hot high twenties but the location we went to was way to windy that's Hade edge for you .even o n a sunny day its windy. We went to another reservoir other side of Holmfirth a ten a fifteen minute drive away at Riding wood .I t was a disaster the drone crashed into some fir trees and burnt out two of its motor bushes end of its maiden flight if I cant buy new motors then its a new drone at least it got us out of the house and the walk was nice .Went to our local the Boshaw Trout for a pint cheers Helen .

TUESDAY - Went to the doctors got some more liquid morphine which is good .Helen had a few readings two coming to the house .We took the dogs out for an evening walk .Helen still not liking that she has to inject me on a daily basis it usually takes a good five minutes but she get it in the end .Did less steps today than the previous two days .

LONGEST WALK

SUNDAY - Woke up with slight discomfort and pain must have slept out of sync its hard getting comfortable some nights plus sleeping on my back is not my normal position .

The new Shark Vacuum cleaner is excellent it comes with a car detailing attachments for getting in all the nooks and carnies that you have dust and debris in your car and can never get suctioned out hopefully these various attachment sorts it .

The Nutri Bullet is ok the only thing I don't like is its no stop start button and the amount of fruit and liquid that you can process at one time it chops and cuts and blends  fine , pulps up even frozen fruit to a better consistency than our previous blender so guess its a result .

The four slice Smeg toaster and temperature controlled Smeg kettle arrived this morning more cardboard to get rid of the kettle and toaster we have are only weeks old but Helen wanted to go back to Smeg could have bought an Ipad mini or some new headphones boiled water and toast is the same quality regardless of water you use .

Went to Dunford bridge did  my longest walk since my accident just under 8500 steps which is the most I have done in one day in the last fortnight , I was suffering towards the end of the walk we timed the distance just right .You can walk all the way to Penistone on this route not sure how many miles you are looking at think its under ten .

SUCK IT UP

FRIDAY - What a long week it's been was up again around half past five once I am awake just lying there with broken ribs seems pointless specially when you need to pee so its toilet , dressed , downstairs and make a coffee this is ground hog day at it's best .fire up the laptop and start writing the blog that I will post tomorrow when I get up after I have checked and added anything to yesterdays blog before posting that days blog .

The worst thing about broken ribs  - Coughing instant pain at its worst , hiccups nearly as bad bearable if in bouts of one , putting socks on ok on good side implications if not careful on injured side , getting in and out of bed each time does get  slightly easier, driving not too bad extremely be careful of potholes and speed bumps smooth and gentle on the gas , codeine tablets bung you up not good stop taking them.

Had a drive over to Tesco at Penistone for a few items got baking potatoes and a tin of chili for my tea sorted will have it with grated cheese  I also for the first time in ages got over 5000 steps in .

Running out of Paracetamols the box I was given on my discharge as almost gone the morphine a few more doses then that's gone .

SATURDAY - Woke up just after 03.00 am went to toilet instead of getting dressed and going downstairs went back to bed finally got up just after six am .

Went to Curry's pc world Helen bought a Nutribullet 600 and a Shark detect lift away  corded vacuum cleaner hopefully they both do what they say on the box .She also ordered a Smeg kettle and a Smeg 4 slice toaster in shinny black they will be delivered to the house over the next few days .

On the way home we saw the protestors outside the Cedar Court Hotel protesting over its use to house no doubt illegal immigrant's it was quite a good show of people , it looked peaceful a police presence was watching over the proceedings.

ANOTHER FIRST

THURSDAY - Was up just before 04.00 a.m. pain ok did take some paracetamol and liquid morphine.

Took the hounds out Rosie and Bailey for their morning walk did father than I have walked since getting home and was not as out of breath a good sign things are improving

We have hair appointments this morning in Slaithwaite a few miles away a couple of villages away from Holmfirth it takes around twenty five minutes by car we set of in plenty of time and we got there for our 11.15 a.m. appointments ten minutes early the haircut by Sophie at HD7 as always perfect thank you Sophie .

Stopped of at Compos fish and chip shop on the way home we got fish chips bread cake and Chinese curry sauce bliss , but no good for the waist line but very nice all the same they seemed to have improved since we ate there last , or is it just because we was both craving them .We sat outside usually we mess the car up Helen went in to the shop to buy them which is another first .

ANOTHER BREAK

WEDNESDAY - We needed milk and other items I had a craving for a fresh chicken Tikka Masala for tea I also needed brown sugar for my coffees its the little things you miss or take for granted .I had not much choice I drove the car to Aldi a few miles away because I had no morphine apart from first thing as I was waiting for delivery I decided to jump in the car and drive Helen and I to Aldi . I made it ok Helen was my eyes and look out  a couple of speed bumps caused a twitch but the car seat was good support .

Luckily I got my curry as well as brown sugar happy again it doesn't take much it is the little things I crave another food item on the list is of course fish and chips which I always crave when I am laid up or ill  .I made it round the aisle's ok no one bumped into me it was late evening so it was quieter we also got beef mince , bacon , swede , salad items , bread and bottled water .

Helen's dad rang later on in the evening to say Joan Helens Mother had tripped and fallen breaking her wrist again which is the worst news possible its the same arm she broke the other year also from falling over .

Felt a bit out of it was really sleep and was having hot sweats and stomach cramps not sure why it lasted for about a hour and was back to normal .

Watched Deadpool I have all three films to watch getting up early in the morning any time between which is so far been between 04.00 - 05.30 depending on the time we go to bed

HOME DELIVERY NOT AMAZON

MONDAY - Woke up had my best longest sleep yet by far first time I laid under the duvet it was cold not sure if that the reason because I felt more secure or snug but I had well over six hours which even when I am well would be a longer sleep than normal .

Helen has readings this afternoon so I will cook us dinner Helen bought a joint of beef will cook it with rosemary we grow in the garden , with roast and mash potatoes ,mashed carrot and swede , and of course Yorkshire pudding will also have horseradish and thick beef gravy .

Phoned the doctors surgery told then I was running out of Oramorph and needed another bottle its addictive so I will have to see the receptionist said she would speak to one of the doctors if they will prescribe it  I wont find out until later tomorrow if I will be allowed it.

TUESDAY - Didn't have a great sleep I was not comfy was to laid down I couldn't adjust myself I got dressed nearly messed up putting my socks Helen helped dress me  , I made it down stairs made a coffee .and watched the newest "Mission Impossible " film .

At half past eight I phoned the Doctors the prescription as been processed its at the Chemist ready to pick up .I phoned the Chemist to double check it was there better still they are going to deliver it to my home address result very happy not just because of the pain relief it makes me drowsy which helps me sleep if I don't fight it .A very nice delivery man brought it this afternoon thank you it does help seeing that for the last five days I have not been taking the Dihydrocodeine I would rather be able to go to the toilet which is Mission Impossible whilst popping them .

A WEEK ON

SUNDAY - One week on and I went for my longest walk yet with Helen and the dogs did over 2000 steps when you're daily average has been no more than 550 its a good achievement I made it to the field I usually do a lap around I left them there  Helen and the dogs continued on without me , I made it home with Bentley my cat who likes to follow .

Helen cooked me a full English breakfast which always tastes better when someone else cooks it unless they cant fcuking cook or burn everything .

Helen finally manage to inject me to help stop blood clots forming she did ok was really good not totally pain free but as good as it needs to be .

I want to buy a fast charging block and lead for my iPhone but also which also has a usb c connection for headphones and other items that all use usb-c which is mainly everything now .I need a charging dock for my Apple watch as a back up for when I am out and about in hotels out for the day or God forbid in Hospital again .

Because my accident was not planned what accidents are ever I went to Hospital with the clothes I had on my iPhone ,  a back pack with a Anker charging block and  lighting lead for my iPhone with wall plug  , my Bluetooth iems , an aluminium water bottle with blackcurrant dilute juice and a pen .No toiletries , no deodorant , no change of clothes .

The hospital will provide tooth brush and tooth paste , shaving gel and razors obviously they are no doubt the cheapest out there so no branded stuff they I get it they are on a budget and these items are free , the razors just did the job the shaving cream just not quite enough in the sachet but better than nothing had a shave not the best shave ever but did fell better afterwards which is a result so thank you Nhs for then first few days you sorted me out in everyway got to say that  the staff all staff both medical and non medical Legends all working together effortlessly with one aim , one goal to get well enough to go home which the did 100% of which goes without saying I am extremely grateful for .

EMERGENCY STOP

SATURDAY - Woke up just after four a.m so I had some sleep went to the toilet again was so happy fired up  the laptop a black screen of death nothing happened rebooted nothing happened I couldn't start in safe mode or recovery mode typical but  finally after forty minutes of trying different procedures I got it to boot by pressing F2 whilst it was firing up I was relieved I think it had done a update and this was the issue turned off automatic updates .

Did the walk with Helen got farther than yesterday before turning back for home still haven't got as far as the field working on it .

Cooked a couple of sandwiches for breakfast a mushroom and bacon and a sausage and tom , nothing else to do .Trisha from the house above came and gave me my daily injection to prevent blood clots .

I also had a shower first one since the accident its over the bath with a shower screen if slip guess I be well fcuked washed my hair , Helen cut my toenails and gave me some of her pyjama bottoms to wear and that was the highlight of my day.

My car sits on the drive just staring at me I am tempted to drive but think its too early yet maybe Monday my sister and her husband drove it back from York were it was parked up on the Sunday I had my accident . Least saving on petrol I can get behind the wheel ok I did tried it was easy enough can I drive pain free the legal requirements is I can perform an emergency stop guess if I had to pretty sure that I would  automatically  perform this manoeuvrer  .

TIME TO RECOVER

THURSDAY - Last day in hospital my daughter is picking me up early evening its surreal I want to go home I miss being there yet its a giant step at hospital you need anything you've got it at home its a different scenario if it was up to me the earliest I would be going is Monday .

I packed all my items I didn't have that much a couple of charging cables my Bluetooth iems and uneaten items that had been brought in one being a chocolate orange and a packet of chocolate  hobnobs.

I was given a plastic carrier bag full of medication  I x box of 500mg paracetamol , 28 x tablets of 30 mg Dihydrococodeine , 28 x Enoxaparin pre filled syringes to prevent blood clots , 100 ml of morphine sulphate oral solution enough for 20 doses and a box of 30 sachets of Laxido they are to make going to the toilet easier but they don't work the codeine makes you constipated .

I got my discharge papers and a sick note for a month I almost dropped my urine bottle laughing I should have I will getting another one of my doctors when needed .

My daughter arrived it had been sunny and warm all day it still was she carried everything down to her car parked in the multi storey and we headed home .

Was great seeing Helen I had missed her I have not seen her four four days and of course the dogs Rosie and Bailey who were excited to see me home .Getting into bed later in the evening was easier than I had anticipated it was not too bad I was awake at two and went down stairs for a drink and fired up the  laptop .

FRIDAY - Went for a walk with Helen she was taking the dogs out I only managed to do to the end of the road before turning round I was out of breath and had to make sure far  I was at a point not too far and that I had the energy and breath  to make it home .

Helen couldn't do my injection to stop my blood clots luckily a nurse lives a couple of doors up she obliged and injected me rest of the day spent just trying to keep on top of medication and keeping pain free finally went to the toilet hopefully the first of many .

GOING HOME

MONDAY - Woke up after first night in hospital in Hdu  I was sore and had not slept .They came with my breakfast cornflakes , But is was too low down in the bed to eat the nursing staff needed to get me sat upright and I certainly couldn't do it on my own II wished I could so they removed my pillows and they put the electronic bed in to flat mode this was strain enough and agony .Then they had to roll me  on to my side to get the sheet under me this was agony I had never felt pain and strain so bad what seemed like ages before I  is was back on my back then they had to repeat the process to get the sheet under my opposite side again agony and pain I was hot sweating , finally they had it in place .

I was laid flat on the red sheet then the tipped the bed at my feet end so the bed went on an angel  and I slide back job done the sheet removed and I was sat up so I could eat the cornflakes that  I didn't really want .

Had visitors my daughter and son came I got goodies chocolate , coke and fruit they thought I looked ok sat down doing nothing I am not in pain as  I am relaxed and I am at my best

TUESDAY - It is not fun I cant cough they have me on liquid morphine codeine and paracetamol every two hours I am walking about very slow I sit in the chair most off the day getting in and out of bed is the worst had another x-ray I asked to see it wish I hadn't my ribs were worse than I thought totally out of line how the fcuk these are meant to heal anyone's guess was reassured they will be fine .Still mobile making it to the bathroom doing laps round the ward breathing not great oxygen levels drop put me on a nebuliser to help clear my lungs my breathing always returns to normal so no major concerns .Moved us from Hdu to normal side ward it was a quick move it was only next room down the corridor three of us went I got a bed side of the window I'am a bit like Hannibal Lecter just want a view from a window see the sky clouds cars in the distance etc, etc

WEDNESDAY - Told I can go home tomorrow I don't think I am ready they said all they are doing is monitoring my pain and I can do that at home by myself so no need to take a bed up

It was nice to drive home see the greenery and fields with sheep and lambs reset my head last two days have been mega stressful but so far so good .Hopefully Guy is happy as a piglet in a field with its sibling his life overnight has improved immensely mainly thanks to his sister but others have been involved along the way .

Hopefully he continues to get better and improves in general he has had time to think lying in a hospital bed would give anyone time to reflect and see life differently its time for him to move forward forget the past and enjoy the future .But he is team leader and its down to him if he is unwilling to change and willing to carry on regardless , then its his choice , he knows the score only too well .

On the way home we stopped of at Marks and Spencer's at Birstall I bought some of the new chicken dishes all in the extra crunchy range a  hot honey puffed ,Korean and a masala three for twelve pounds .They were giving away bunches of flowers Helen was given three bunches , not to be sneezed at specially with my hay fever .I also bought a M&S tomato sauce for a £1:00 its the best cheap sauce ever .

I reckon I 'am 30% sufficient in using it maybe 40%.

Don't know what pay rise we are getting this year or when it will be paid we get it back paid why they cant sort it on time I have no idea same as the pension update we should know we have to wait until August .

Helen is on Mounjaro 2.5 mg I have injected her twice once in her thigh the other in her stomach she lost 6lbs the first week she has her next injection Monday .The needle is disposable screw on is ultra fine and only 4mm in length a very small prick .

Helen made some granola using rolled oats and crushed nuts and fruit baked in the oven we had it with Greek yogurt and strawberries .We have been eating a lot of chicken breast done in the George Foreman , I also did some salmon in  the air fryer for the first time came out perfect fresh salmon is as cheap as tinned but so much nicer .

REAL WORLD

THURSDAY - Bought twenty two bags of plum slate for the opposite side of the drive which is shared by Adam our neighbour we covered all of the soil with the slate .Watching the latest episode of " Gangs Of London" although I have watched them before I  binged watched the first and second series to get refreshed I have also got the first three series of "Godfather Of Harlem" after seeing a trailer on YouTube.

FRIDAY  Went over to York to visit Helens parents we meet up with her cousin Sharon and Craig and headed off to Wetherby whaler in York we all had fish and chips apart from Helen she had scampi .

APRIL - Started having to clock in and out at work its pissing a lot of people off for years they have been signing in and out but not entering the correct time and in some cases leaving work an hour earlier or later than the signing time suggests that they started or left which of course is fraud .Obviously that will now stop so earlier and late buses time to join the real world .

FINISHED

THURSDAY -Did the front of house or more to the point the front garden area .It has never been a pasture of green , from the house getting built real cheap turf at least it now looks fresh and clean rather than mud looking  .We have thrown down numerous boxes of grass seed over the last four years  , and even  returfed it all to no avail . So bye bye grass we trimmed  the trees back a few days ago . Now the grass is gone for good  the picture below has had thirteen bags of Yorkshire cream gravel it needs another fifteen bags for it to be complete .It needs the liner trimming back  and the wood work on the right needs  repainting so it looks fresh  for around £150 job done .Think it needs a bird bath and a sun dial Helen wants some large silver spheres will see .

FRIDAY - Should be breaking up tonight or Saturday morning but I had a unplanned snow day later on in the year  so I cancelled the  Monday next week annual leave  and have fours days off from Tuesday .

Bought some plum coloured slate makes a nice difference to the right side slate weighs a lot more than the gravel .This part of the garden is finished maybe a few pots .

SATURDAY - Water pressure hosed the rear patio some of the green alga was still left behind will have to get some solution to get rid .It does look 100% better and a lot cleaner roll on summer .I also refitted the outside light that came down in the snow fall from the roof I had to fix it through the front plate its slight skewwhiff but its working will have to re drill one side  to pull it level .

SUNDAY - Found some Jeye's fluid put it on the back patio let it dried in whilst I did the front flags and block paving it was quite messy and took quite long to get rid of all the muck I had to move the car after that we cut back some conifers and trimmed some other bushes Helen made the mess and I cleaned it up .

After finally finishing and tidying up and hitting the shower we decided to go to the Wetherby Whaler for fish and chips in the restaurant it was shut for refurbishment so we ended up going to the Sovereign and had fish and chips in beer better very  nice .

DOGS ON FILM

SATURDAY -It is quite sunny and the temperature over the last couple of days has improved  although there is still a ground frost most mornings .Latest purchase from Amazon is a Blurams indoor swivel tracking camera it cost under thirty pounds the app and set up really easy .It focus and image quality very good truly impressed obviously you get what you pay for , but to be honest its flawless so far no regrets .We bought so I can see how Helen is when I am away from home due to her health issues also as well as seeing her we can have a live conversation  in real time so its well worth the money .
